Is E10 Bad for Your Car?

Fuel pricing guide for Australian drivers

Last updated:

E10 is safe for most modern cars, but not all vehicles are approved for E10 fuel. Whether your car can safely use E10 depends on its age, engine type, and fuel system materials.

Cars built after 2005 are generally approved for E10 use. However, older cars may have fuel system components that were not designed to handle the slightly higher alcohol content. Ethanol can degrade certain rubber and plastic components over time.

Before switching to E10, check your owner's manual or contact your vehicle manufacturer. Most major car makers now approve E10 for newer models. If your car is not approved for E10, stick with standard unleaded or premium fuels like U91, P95, or P98.

Using unapproved E10 in a car that does not support it can potentially cause fuel system damage and performance issues over time. Always verify approval before making the switch.
