What Is E10 Fuel?
Fuel pricing guide for Australian drivers
Last updated:
E10 is a blend of 90% standard unleaded petrol (95 RON) and 10% ethanol derived from renewable sources like sugarcane. In Australia, E10 is becoming increasingly common as a fuel option.
Ethanol is a high-octane alcohol fuel produced from plant materials. It burns more efficiently than traditional petrol, though it has slightly lower energy content per litre. Most Australian fuel retailers now stock E10 alongside traditional unleaded.
The main advantage of E10 is its lower cost and reduced environmental impact compared to pure unleaded. The ethanol component helps reduce tailpipe emissions of harmful pollutants. Many newer cars are approved for E10 use, though older vehicles may have compatibility concerns.
